报告题目:UCL Orthopaedic Bioengineering: Addressing Unmet Clinical Needs

报告摘要:

The collaboration between University College London (UCL) and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) has created one of the world's leading translational ecosystems for musculoskeletal innovation. Building on a long history of pioneering contributions in implant design, orthopaedic oncology, rehabilitation engineering and regenerative medicine, UCL Orthopaedic Bioengineering aims to address major unmet clinical needs in musculoskeletal healthcare.

This presentation highlights translational research spanning implant innovation, tissue engineering, personalised healthcare and regenerative medicine. Particular focus will be placed on osteoarthritis and cartilage repair, where biomimetic osteochondral scaffolds have been developed to facilitate the regeneration of both cartilage and subchondral bone. From laboratory research and disease modelling to large-animal studies and first-in-human clinical translation, these examples demonstrate how multidisciplinary collaboration can accelerate the development of clinically relevant solutions. The presentation will also discuss future opportunities in smart biomaterials, advanced manufacturing, rehabilitation technologies and AI-enabled musculoskeletal healthcare.

报告人简介:

Professor Chaozong Liu is Professor of Orthopaedic Bioengineering and Director of the UCL Centre for Bioengineering and Surgical Technology at University College London (UCL), working closely with the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, one of the world's leading specialist orthopaedic hospitals.

He is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB), his research focuses on biomaterials, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and advanced manufacturing technologies for musculoskeletal repair. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed papers and actively promotes the translation of innovative healthcare technologies from laboratory research to clinical applications.

Professor Liu serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Bio Integration and Specialty Chief Editor of Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, and Associate Editor of AI-X. He is internationally recognised for his contributions to biomaterials and regenerative medicine.
