报告题目:Terahertz-Based Light-Driven Control of Solids: Recent Experiments and Future Prospect
报告简介:
The control of quantum materials with tailored light fields opens new avenues for manipulating collective excitations and out-of-equilibrium phases of matter. In this talk, I will first discuss recent advances in shaping the polarization of high-field terahertz pulses to selectively drive infrared-active phonons, providing new routes to control material responses with high precision. Building on this, I will present ultrafast phononic-control experiments materials, with particular focus on quantum antiferromagnets. In these systems, THz excitation modulates magnetic exchange interactions and drive coherent spin dynamics, revealing magneto-phononic pathways that couple driven lattice displacements to magnetic modes on sub-picosecond timescales. Finally, I will outline future prospects for experiments aimed at actively engineering and potentially stabilizing novel quantum states in correlated spin systems.

Dr. Flavio Giorgianni is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Applied Physics, University of Bern. He develops advanced laser platforms to coherently control quantum matter with intense, phase-stable THz and mid-infrared fields, integrating nonlinear optics with FTIR, Raman, and X-ray techniques. His work spans frustrated quantum magnets, Dirac materials, high-Tc superconductors, THz photonics/plasmonics, and nonlinear light–matter interactions. Highlights include the first time-domain observation and light-driven control of the Leggett mode in a superconductor, nonlinear THz responses in topological insulators, and ultrafast THz magneto-phononic control of spins. His long-term goal is to establish the working principles for future light-driven quantum devices.
