2008-2010, Research Associate, WPI-Advanced Institute for Materials Research (AIMR), Tohoku University, Japan

Research Field

1. New functional amorphous materials for coatings, catalysts and electronics.

2. amorphous ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic semiconductors.

3. Multi-scale hierarchical structural amorphous composites for new functions.

Research Situation

Dr. Chen centers her research interests on variety of amorphous solids including nanogranular metallic glasses, magnetic amorphous thin films, high entropy metallic glasses and amorphous antiferromagnets. Structural disorder and the disorder-induced electron localization are the most important fingerprint features of the atomic and electronic structures for amorphous solids, determining their properties. Tuning disorder in amorphous solids is therefore essential to the creation of new types of amorphous materials and the discovery of novel effects. Based on amorphous alloys, Dr. Chen mainly utilize two routes to enhance the disorder of amorphous solids. One is the modification of local atomic bonding types via oxygen additions, while the other is the entropy regulation.
